Brief Answer:
Check with a dermatologist...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Yes, stressor is known to cause painful scalp similar to tension headaches. But I would also refer you to a dermatologist to check for local conditions including dandruff and infections. If they are present, then they can be treated with antifungal shampoo's. Therefore in my opinion, you need to see a dermatologist first.

In case no local conditions are found, the painful complaints can be treated with pain threshold lowering medicines such as amitriptyline or pregabalin. I would try these drugs for 3-6 months based on your tolerance and drug response. Stress relieving measures such as regular food, regular sleep, physical exercise, transcedental meditation and yoga will also benefit you.

So start with a dermatologist consultation. If it is clear, visit a neurologist and discuss about starting the aforementioned drugs.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
