Question: Hi, I had back sx in 2010 fused C4 and C5 had lower back pain and a lot of pain down left leg. After sx 6 months later I fell hard on my left side right away I had numbness and sharp pains down left leg. I have pain in buttock area from tailbone to the left side of buttock. Burning tingling pain and the pain goes on the outside of left leg and down back of leg to the ankle and toes. Its a achy burning tingling my pain score is always around 6-7 unless I take a lot of pain meds. I also get tingling in my groin on the left side. The past year I have had trouble losing my bowel movements and urine at times. I have had a Ct mylegram in April 2012 showed nothing. Went thru many treatments SI- Injections a lot of physical therapy, massage, acup[ucture and local steroid shots but the pain continues everyday. I cant stand or sit for very long. Car rides are the worst. I have been putting heat on every day for the past month and start walking again this has given me some relief. I am depressed over this and have given up because every Dr. I go to cant help me even went to a Pain Clinic many times. I first thought maybe Piriformis muscle syndrome but would it last this long? I spent so much money really don't know where to turn anymore. Any advice?? Judi Driesen age 52

Brief Answer:
It may be the neuralgia, due to pressure of injury

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
As you describe, it appears to be the neuritis of the sciatic nerve due to the pressure of the injury. The fixing of the C4 and C5 might be aggravating the condition due to adhesion.
Pain in the groin, and the difficulty in the defecation and passing urine may be due to the infection of UT, or bowels, or the nerves of the lumbar region, any how now you are free of it, don't worry about it.
Pain and tingling of the outer side of the left leg suggests the neuralgia of the fibular nerve.
I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis and treatment.
You may need to have an M.R.I,and color Doppler for diagnosis of the injury to the nerve, and the blood vessels.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms, injections of vitamin B1, 6, and 12 for 10 consecutive days, and then periodically.
Multivitamins, calcium, protein supplements, cifixime, and pain killers, when ever there is pain.
Avoid taking potato, other tubers, tomato, egg, chicken, and sea foods to minimize the pain perception.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
