What Causes Pain In Chest And Left Arm When Suffering From Hypertension?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Feb 2015
Question: I am hypertensive for about 20 years and on medication (Olmezest H 20 1-0-0) I had a heavy feeling in the chest and pain in my left arm a couple of days ago. The doctor at office got a BP reading of 190/110 and recommended that I get an ECG done. ECG and enzyme tests showed nothing alarming. I anyways got a comprehensive blood test done. Please review and advise.

Brief Answer:
Better to go for a Stress test (TMT-tread mill test)

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking Health care magic forum.

I have gone through your query. Your problem is most likely due to high blood pressure which increase work load on Heart. Blood pressure on both hands should be measured also. But better to go for a Tread mill test and Echo cardiography to rule out any cardiac problems. If there is normal reports on these tests and further discomfort is there then an Angiography should be done to rule out any cardiac ischaemia definitely.

Blood pressure should be normalized by medications. You are now on two drug therapy olmesartan and hydrochlorthiazide. Another drug should be added to decrease your Blood pressure if it is not getting normalized by these two. If you were my patient i would like to increase the olmesartan dose to 40 gradually and if further is not controlled then will add a calcium channel blocker like clinidipine.

I have seen reports, I found that you have vitamin D deficiency which can cause muscle spasms and pain. I suggest you start Vitamin D supplements after discussing with your doctor.

A consultation with a cardiologist is well appreciated.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
