Posted on Wed, 17 Sep 2014
Question: I sit at my computer desk over 8 hours a day, my chair height was low and now i noticed i have my shoulders hanging all the time, i have to consciously bring them down, is this a problem?
My major concern now is my right elbow, it rests on the chair arm while my wrists are high up on the table to hold the mouse, i have fixed the height and switched to my left hand, but, i still get this pain at my elbow, its over 4 months, i cant stretch my right arm without feeling elbow pain. what do i do?

Brief Answer:
Physiotherapy will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the elbow is probably due to inflammation of the tendons or nerve inflammation caused by stress and resting the elbow on the arm chair.
Treatment includes--
Avoid activities that require you to keep your arm bent for long periods of time.
Since you use a computer frequently, make sure that your chair is not too low. Do not rest your elbow on the armrest.
Avoid leaning on your elbow or putting pressure on the inside of your arm. For example, do not drive with your arm resting on the open window.
Keep your elbow straight at night when you are sleeping. This can be done by wrapping a towel around your straight elbow or wearing an elbow pad backwards.
Painkillers for pain ,steroids .,bracing or splinting ,nerve gliding exercise etc. will also help. You also need to start with shoulder exercises to strengthen the muscles under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Take pain killers also.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The change in posture will help. But you need to take pain killers and do a hot fomentation to combat the ongoing inflammation.
Hope my answer is helpful.
