Question : my son is 13 years old. He woke up this morning with his right arm around the elbow area hurting. At first he thought it was how he slept on it because it feels like it is asleep. However he has been up for 4 hours and it has not gone away. He has full mobility of the arm but it is a consistent pain, even if the arm is not in motion.

Thank you for the query.

Such symptom usually appears due to some injury or frequently repeated action.
Sleeping on arm gives rather tingling and lack of sensing than pain.
Depending of the pain location we can have different issues. If the is located on the outer part of elbow, so called "tennis elbow" can be the case.
If its inner part of elbow painful, "golfers elbow" can be the case.
If its a bottom of elbow giving the pain, bursitis is the most probable reason.

All this conditions can be treated in the same way. He should avoid any activity of right arm. Cold compresses should be applied few times a day. Some antiinflammatory cream can be applied.
If this wont help in few days, he should consult orthopedist.
