Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: I have pain in my left forearm and wrist also joint pain in my right elbow and wrist and thumb I get pains in my bones like there being stressed to breaking point deep in my bones quite stiff joints too. I'm not sure if it's related but my shoulders are weak they kind of drop slightly I can normally pop them back myself sometimes it can take a couple of days it's very painful but it's not a full dislocation I think it's due to partial dislocations from many years ago.

Dear madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well I have gone through your entire history and it would be very useful if you could send me your previous test reports specially ESR , RF , ANA , metabolic profile , TSH . Please attach any previous x rays or MRI also so that we can help you out in best possible way .

Take care.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the above and don't even think I've had half of them as they haven't been offered Drs here just aren't interested in even trying to help me which is what bought me here my bones in my shoulders and arms haven't been x rayed either I do have 2 plates in my left arm which have been there 22 years and my shoulder injuries were in my teens I was 17 when I originally injured my right shoulder and remember being told that I may have damaged the capsule in which the arm rotates and may need a replacement in the next 10 years but was never given any follow ups the pain in my arm with the plates is greatly exasperated by the cold and I assume that's why I get the pain and stiffness there but the joint pain in my right hand wrist and elbow is new I'm sorry I can't give you anymore information I understand if you can't advise but would like to say thank you for at least trying kind regards Sur

Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Since you dont give any history of swelling in any joint it is unlikely to be arthritis considering your age also. It seems more like a metabolic derangement at present but cant be said with surity . Anyways if I prescribe you the tests that will be required by us to reach some kind of diagnosis can you get them done and upload the reports . If that is not possible we will find out some alternate way but please let me know this . As I see you reside in UK so it will be a bit difficult as NHS system is there but still I wanted to ask .

Dear Madam,

Thanks for reverting back.

Metabolic bone disease I mean which stands for calcium and vitamin D derangements . Anyways that would be great , we can go for some basic tests which I think would be important to reach some diagnosis . Please request your GP to get CBC, ESR , RF , ANA , S. CALCIUM , Vitamin D Levels ,Vitamin B12 levels, S. TSH levels done.

Rest If you can get the x rays done also that would be great but we will at least be able to rule out some common ailments.

Take care.
