What Causes Pain In Glans Peins?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question:
I have been experiencing a localized pain in the left portion of my penile glam near the where the glans meets the shaft for the past 8 days. It only hurts when I touch when I towel off or add Neosporin and the over the counter anti-fungal I purchased.

I am not married and have had more than one sexual partner over the last year, and sex has usually been unprotected. It is important to note that I am uncircumcised and we have not been using lubricants, and she can become dry during sex. She also have a serious yeast and bacterial infection 2 month ago.

I have not experienced any other symptoms like painful urination, open pussy sores, redness, fever, etc. Just this localized dull pain that won't seem to go away. I cannot even see or pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. But after 8 days, if it were friction burn I would expect it to feel better.

I am very worried this could be herpes. If this is not herpes, could it be that I have a damaged penis or have pinched nerve or yeast infection?

If it is is a yeast infection, wouldn't I show other symptoms than a localized pain with no redness, smegma, painful urination, discharge, etc.?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of irritant dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it. I have also looked the Image and this looks absolutely normal to me.

Herpes usually presents with grouped discrete erosions and burning sensation or pain over the erosions, but there are'nt any in your case.

I could relate this type of presentation to few of my patients who practice over enthusiastic hygiene and rubbing of the delicate skin of glans e.g repeated washing with soaps, using either dettol or savlon for cleansing etc thus leading on to an irritant dermatitis which confuses both the patient as well as the clinician, as to what is the real cause?? without realising that the overaggressive hygiene that they practice is itself the cause.

General measures:

-Avoid soaps or body wash to clean the delicate skin of foreskin and glans. Instead you can use just plain water for gentle cleansing.

Specific treatment: If I was your treating doctor I would have advised you to apply a mild to moderately potent topical steroid like beclomethasone, twice daily for 7 days.
