What Causes Pain In Groin Area?

Question: My father is 80 years old and has been suffering recently with severe pain in his right groin, he has been x rayed (this showed arthritis) and has to see an orthopaedic surgeon on 8th December as his doctor thinks this pain is caused through his hip and has suggested he may need a hip replacement? (previous complaints are a plate and screws in his right leg due to an accident when he was 18 and he also had bowel cancer 4 years ago - this was removed successfully without any bag or chemo reqd). My father is worried that the groin pain is not related to his hip and may be something more sinister, can groin pain be caused through the hip? Thank you from a worried daughter

The groin pain can be related to hip pain or due to degenerative changes in the spine or due to arthritis or a decrease in levels of calcium and Vitamin D3.
All these can be detected by a few blood tests and an MRI scan. Do consult his orthopedician so that proper treatment can be started after investigations.
Meanwhile in addition to the pain killer he can get a muscle relaxant and calcium supplements prescribed from his physician. Doing a hot fomentation in the painful area will also help.
