Question: Hi
My husband is 42. For the last 3 days his right side of his leg is dead and it hurts a lot and it goes up to his hip. He says it feels like it is in the muscles but it is very soar. He is a frequent flyer and was travelling for 8 hours on a plain 2 days before the pain started. We stay in West-Africa so it is not easy to go to Dr that are experienced. Thanks
Brief Answer:
Veins thrombosis.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
From your description it is very probable that he has veins thrombosis. Due to thrombus in the veins, the leg gets hard and tender. Pain is quite strong.
It seems that this thrombosis is going up to the main veins. He needs to get proper treatment as soon as possible.
If you are able to take him to the hospital, this would be the best option. He should have d-dimers checked and Dopplers veins ultrasound.
If he is unable to visit a doctor please follow this steps:
- lie him down to the bed, his leg should be elevated (put a pillow under his leg)
- he should not walk and move his leg much (as the thrombus can tear off and block lungs veins)
- he has to get heparine injections (Nodroparinum 8 550 j.m. twice a day)
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
