What Causes Pain In Hips After Walking?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: I am a 33 year old woman, about 5'3", 150lbs. I get pain in my hips when I walk very much. It's usually not both hips at the same time but its very severe. If I stay off my legs the pain will go away after a while. It hurts in in front where you bend your leg, on the outside, and in the back upper buttocks, again not in all of those areas at the same time. It doesn't hurt every time I do excessive walking but the frequency has been increasing over the last 5 years. When I say excessive walking I don't mean walking a mile, I mean grocery shopping or going to a large mall.

Brief Answer:
Iliopsoas tendonitis / Lumbosacral disc trouble.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

Pain after walking, difficulty in flexing the limb, relieved by rest or posture change (sitting , off the leg postures etc) , Pain radiating to buttocks are all worth assessment and two or three probable possibilities are there and they need evaluation.

Its either Iliopsoas tendinitis or Lumbosacral Disc troubles like herniation or prolapse leading to sciatica symptoms. Its could be hip bone inflammation Osteitis but odds are less.

What ever it is it will be clear with slight MR imaging and plain radiographs. I suggest you seek an orthopaedic or a spine specialist and let them take it from here.

If the diagnosis is unclear, a CBC count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor, anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibody, antinuclear antibody, and urinalysis are helpful ancillary tests for distinguishing among several other causes of groin pain which your doctors may order.

Nutshell, it is easily treatable, Slight physiotherapy, slight conservative medicines and it poofs away in 90 % of cases. Lets hope you are on of them.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Regards
Khan
