Brief Answer:
Most likely she is having osteoarthritis of Carpometacarpal joint of thumb.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that your mother most likely is having osteoarthritis of Carpometacarpal joint of left thumb(where thumb joints to palm) as it is common in her age and she is unable to move thumb freely and she is feeling pain on movements. It can be confirmed by x ray of thumb AP and lateral views. It is degenerative(related to ageing) disease.

I treat such persons coming to my clinic by Diacerine and Glucosamine. These medicines are helpful in slowing its progress and to some extend repair it. Analgesic such as ibuprofen is given to relief pain. Hot fomentation is soothing. Rest to thumb (least movement of thumb) will be helpful in reducing pain.

You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.

Hope I have answered your query.
If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Wishing you good health.
Take care.
