Posted on Fri, 24 Oct 2014
Question: My sister, 28 yrs old has been feeling an obstructive pain in her left jaw on the rear side, when she opens her mouth. This feels like extending upto the facial bones next to the left ear. But otherwise there is no pain. This is more when she yawns after waking up from sleep. Kindly suggest possible causes and remedies. She doesn't have a history of something like this.

Brief Answer:
Jaw joint dysfunction due to wear;Exercises helps

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and her suffering is due to temporo mandibular joint (TMJ-jaw joint) dysfunction. Although the exact cause is not known but it is due to wearing of joint and somewhat common in persons who are fond of eating food items like burger and other junk food which requires mouth to be open wide.

Regarding treatment, she should have exercises (chewing gum), soft diet, and pain killer like Ibuprofen along with muscle relaxant drugs like thiocolchicoside helps.
Hoe this helps.
Take care
