What Causes Pain In Left Side Of Stomach With Normal Blood Test?

Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: Hi,

I am getting pain in left side stomach. It is not regular but occurs frequently.
In april was having same problem, so did stomach ultra sound and reports shown kidney stone. so recently again was getting stomach pain and upset. so did all test (urine, liver, blood, CT scan brain, chest xray) because of enteric fever and stomach upset. where found typhoid infection in blood test but it was on border. even did full stomach ultra sound. All other reports are normal except typhoid infection(all reports taken in start of July). Stomach report was also normal not found any kidney stone.

Now i am feeling good but still have left side stomach pain, i dont know the reason.
Regular lifestyle, plays badminton regularly almost 1 and half hour. Drink enough qty of water.
Just want to ask the reasons why do i am getting these left side stomach pain.

Brief Answer:
Please go for typhidot

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I have read your query and I would like to know if you have any issues with digestion.

Enteric fever can cause abdominal pain. Its recurrences are also common. I would advise you to go for typhidot test. If IgM is reactive then it would mean that you have active infection. Have you taken antibiotics after the typhoid test (Widal) came borderline? Blood culture is even a better test for it.

Mostly issues related to large intestine cause pain in this quadrant. You have already ruled out anatomical or surgical conditions with the ultrasound. So mostly I am thinking on the lines of inflammation/infection.

Among lifestyle, you should drink clean water since typhoid happens from unclean water. Reverse osmosis technique produces cleanest water.

If typhoid comes back negative, then colonoscopy may be done to rule out other conditions like inflammatory bowel disease, etc. For this you will need to see a surgeon or gastroenterologist.

Regards and take care

Brief Answer:
Typhidot can be done at any lab

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Typhidot is routinely done in many laboratories like SRL etc. Initially you may want to see an internal medicine specialist (medicine department) at any reputed hospital nearby. Once typhoid has been ruled out, he may refer you to gastroenterologist or a surgeon depending on his findings.
