What Causes Pain In Legs, Thighs And Calves While Walking?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Aug 2016
Question: Hi. I never did this before because I'm pretty healthy. Yesterday both legs ached from top of thigh to my calves, while at rest and walking. My heart rate was a little elevated yesterday but today it's ok. Today my calves hurt but only when I walk. I have a headache and I may have a slight fever but I don't have a thermometer. My neck hurts a little and the back of my shoulders are achey. The shoulders a little better than yesterday. What do you think?

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Welcome to Health care magic & thanks for trusting us for your health concern.
I have read your query carefully & would try to help you .
* Considering your normal health with occurance of pain in legs/ neck with slightly increased heart rate & feverishness... I feel it's,
- Either physical or psychological stress/ over activity, causing soreness in muscles/ feverishness & other symptoms.( Fatigue )
- seasonal change of weather causing reaction ( which though was not seen before this, might be evident due to the advancing age
- Some infection any where in body -which can be bacterial(like Respiratory tract, some injury getting infected, tooth infection/ beginning of viral infection.
- Increased heart rate you noted can follow fever/ psychological tension of the symptoms. This seems to be more possible in the age group you belong to.. the perimenopausal age. Here there is hormonal imbalance in body, which makes one more sensitive to any incidence in life ( psychological effect of menopause )
*Most of the causes are self limiting & relieved by simple home care measures ( Fatigue, viral fevers, psychological stress).
Home care-
- Take rest/ eat light nourishing diets with plenty of liquids/ water
- Take over the counter pain pills like Paracetamol/ Ibuprofen twice a day after food
- Use local muscle relaxants ( duoflam gel )for massage
- Be positive. Combat stress by using mind concentration or body relaxation exercises/ be engaged in the activities you like to do.
*But if it's some infection.. you do need doctor's help. Please consult your family doctor if you -
- don't get total relief within 5 days .
- If fever & the symptoms increase.
Doctor would examine you in detail/ get few investigations done if needful( it's good that your EKG is normal. blood & urine test has been done.. & seems to be normal ). He will pin point the cause & start with suitable antibiotic & you would be fine in few days.
* It's good that you don't have any health issue. But this is the time to get full physical examination done to exclude things like diabetes/ blood pressure/ any nutritional deficiency & exclude any health concern
Preventive measures like having a healthy life style should be adopted to avoid future problems.Wish yo a perfect health all the life,
I hope the answer was informative * helpful to you. Any follow up query is welcome.
