What Causes Pain In Lower Abdomen After A Cryotherapy?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Sep 2016
Question: Hi there, I had cervical erosion and did cryotherapy a couple of weeks ago. The discharge stopped a few days after the procedure, and I (incorrectly) assumed that I don't need to wait another few weeks before having sex. Now I feel pain in my lower abdomen (similar to period cramps), and I'm wondering what I should do.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to pelvic inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

The mild cramps after a cryotherapy can be due to the procedure itself. It is usually self limiting. These do subside in few weeks. In case the cramps are persistent then do consult your gynecologist and get an ultrasound scan done to rule out pelvic inflammation.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Dear Dr. Tayal,

Thanks for your response!

So, this is not due to my having intercourse two weeks after the procedure?
(I was told to wait 4-5 weeks, but since the discharge had stopped, I assumed that the cervix had already healed.)

The reason I'm concerned is that I didn't have cramps for the first two weeks after the procedure, and they've only started after I engaged in sexual activity.

Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Can be an intestinal colic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The cramps can be due to intercourse only if it was a rigorous session. It can be due to a mild intestinal infection also. It can be a co incidence that the cramps started after having sex. Just wait for the cramps to subside on their own and try to have a simple diet that is easy to digest.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thank you very much for the advice, and my apologies for the follow-up question.
I can't quite understand what is meant by rigorous session? are you referring to the cryotherapy session or the intercourse?
Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Rigorous intercourse.

Detailed Answer:
An aggressive sex session can result in pain in lower abdomen which is usually self limiting and short lasting. Cryotherapy lesion would have healed by now.
