What Causes Pain In Lower Left And Right Abdomen Post Recovery From Diverticulitis?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Feb 2016
Question: I just got over a one month bout of diverticulitis, even having to be admitted to the hospital on 12/25 for a few days for IV medication.
The diverticulitis has resolved documented by repeat CT Scan on 1/16
Despite this, I continue to have lower left and right abdominal pain
I'm moving my bowels regularly, do not have a fever, etc.
Could this still be a resolution of my disease? How concerned should I be?
I do have an apt with the surgeon who did my colectomy back in 2013, removing 6 inches from my sigmoid colon.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query
I can understand your concern

Well looks like the inflammation has not completely subsided or there may be mild narrowing of that part of colon causing pain.

Worthwhile getting stool occult blood for three sample and a C -Reactive Protein done after consulting your physician.

In addition increase firbre in your diet can take an stool softener like liquid Paraffin(Syp. Cremaffin) along with isapgula husk an fibre supplement after consulting with your physician.

You can take an mild antispasmodic like mebeverine if available over the counter twice a day.

After approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the acute attack can try getting an colonoscopy done to determine the exact cause.

Hope this answers your query. Let me know if there are any further queries regarding.

Best wishes

well does not look like you should be overly concerned. If pain is not severe, or if there is not vomiting, fever or blood in stools then you need not be overly concerned.
best wishes
