What Causes Pain In Neck And At Base Of Skull?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 May 2014
Question: About 3 days ago I woke up with a pain in my neck and also at the base of my skull ( both right side) and also a bigger painful lump at the top of my head. I did a little research on the lump of knots in my neck and believe that the pain in my neck and base of my skull were swollen lymph nodes. I have no idea what may have caused the larger lump on the top of my head. Should I wait to see if it heals on its own, or make a Dr.'s appointment?

Brief Answer: Can be due to an abscess. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for posting your query. The small swellings on the neck can be the swollen lymph nodes. But the larger lump on the head can be due to an infection or injury in the area. If there is no history of injury then a superficial skin lump like lipoma sebaceous cyst or an abscess needs to be ruled out after a physical examination. It is best to consult your physician to find out the cause for both the swellings. I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health. Regards. Dr. Praveen Tayal.
