What Causes Pain In Neck When Suffering From Multi Nodular Goiter?

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: Hi ,
I am 27 year old female detected with hypothyroidism around 4-5 years back.
I am taking thyrox 25 table early morning. My thyroid levels are normal now.

Last year ultrasound was done and detected with multi nodular goiter. My doctor says nodules are small in size so no need to worry.
But I feel pain in neck, discomfort in swallowing, feel continuous pressure in neck, pain near ears as well.

I don’t feel healthy, I have other problems developed over these 4-5 years like hair loss , skin rashes if scratched with sharp object, joint pain, tingling in hands below elbow, lower stomach aches, neck pain, chest pain and pain starts anywhere in body suddenly.

Before 4 -5 years I was normal healthy person. When I took medical treatment for my skin rashes, I drastically gained weight in 2 months and with hair loss and later all these symptoms developed.
If my thyroid levels are normal why still I have so many health issues?. Thyroid antibodies test was also normal.

Please guide if I am getting right treatment.

Thank you!

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
You need to be evaluated for other diseases.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Greetings from Dr. Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

First of all relax, don't worry.

See it's obvious that inspite of your Thyroid levels being normal you are having these problems, means there is some other problem in you which needs to be evaluated.

Coming to your pain in neck, discomfort in swallowing, feel continuous pressure in neck symptoms these will not happen from Multi nodular goiter unless the thyroid is enlarged significantly. But still I advise you to repeat Ultrasound Thyroid to see the current status.

Also it's better to evaluate for other causes like Problems in your throat or food Pipe ( Oesophagus ). For this I advise you to get Upper Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy.

Coming to your Joint pains, Tingling, chest pains I think it's due to Calcium / Vitamin D deficiency which is very much seem in Thyroid patients. So kindly get Serum Calcium and Serum Vitamin D 3 levels done and revert back.

Your Skin rashes and Hair loss needs to be evaluated. There are certain diseases which are associated with Thyroid problem. I advise you to get the following test.

Serum ANA, Fasting and Post Prandial blood sugars.

You said your Thyroid levels is normal, kindly mention how much is the value. Till further advise keep continuing your Thyroid medications.

Hope you find this information useful.
Any clarification feel free to ask.

Regards.
