Question : I have been having extreme pain in my right buttock and hip with leg pain. Had a Mri done and it showed the following: Mderate spinal stenisis L 4-5 from a bulging disc and hypertrophied ligamnetum flavum, very mild spinal stenosis L3-4. 2) Finding shows a synovial cyst in the ride side at L-5-S1, slightly impressing upon the right aspect of the thecal sac and minimally displacing the right S1 nerve root medially. ) Mid disc space narrowing at L5-S1 L4-5, and L3-4. I also had a xray and it said that there is spurring of the lower lumber facets. This pain has been going on for a month now. What do you think of the findings on the tests? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Mild disc prolapse.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Your MRI scan report is suggestive of degenerative changes in the spine with disc space narrowing and spinal stenosis. These are early changes and there is no nerve root compression.
The main treatment of such problem is bed rest along with pain killers and muscle relaxants. Muscle relaxants can help with your symptoms if used in appropriate dosage in combination with a potent analgesic. You can get these prescribed from your orthopedician.
Local analgesic gels and hot fomentation may provide a short term relief. You can use analgesic gels like Volini gel. Exercise is not advisable in the times of acute pain.
Using an LS contour belt of appropriate size might be helpful in providing support to back muscles.
Physiotherapy also plays a major role in treating such conditions. Epidural steroid injections have been used if oral pain killers are not very effective.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Benign cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The synovial cyst is a small benign cyst and is not likely to cause the symptoms that you are having. Mild displacement of the nerve root does not cause a problem.
Hope my answer is helpful.
