Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: My wife has a pain in the right side of her chest, her arm tingles on the right side and she has a heart rate of 133. She went to the ER a couple of days ago had blood and urine work done as well as an Xray. They said they found nothing. What could it be and should we go back if the tests were already negative. They thought it could be a clot or her gall bladder but didn't then changed their minds

Brief Answer:
This could be panic attacks or anxiety!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms you wife has been experiencing. These symptoms with negative laboratory testing maybe suggestive of psychiatric conditions like anxiety, panic disorders, etc. I will suggest that her doctors try her on medications for anxiety/panic attacks and se what the progress is. At her age and absence of abnormalities on laboratory testing, there is very little reason to suspect a heart disease at this time. This is no clot and not a gall bladder disease. They present most commonly with pain under the ribs(gall bladder) and breathing difficulties(clot).

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications. Thanks for trusting using with your health questions today!

This makes sense as she has been prescribed anxiety medication in the past. Would the panic attack account for the pain in the chest/back and the tingling in her arm? Also she is on her period as well. Could this have any impact. The symptoms started prior to her period.

Brief Answer:
I willl suggest we wait fr her menses to get over!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I will suggest that we do a full evaluation after her menses as this can greatly influence the management plan. Menses could provoke and exacerbate anxiety or panic attacks. Let's obtain more information before rushing too fast.

Panic attacks and anxiety can for sure explain the chest pains.

I wish her and hope to hear from you.
