Brief Answer:
Cervical vertebrae nerve compression / fracture.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.

I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Looking at the symptoms and query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Severe pain in shoulder and neck indicates possible vertebral lesion.

2. Possible spondylosis or vertebral fracture needs to be ruled out. You need to get an X-ray done to identify the cause. If any picking of weights aggravates the pain, it is possibly related to vertebrae.

3. Meet your doctor to get an X-ray done and if necessary further MRI may be necessary. Try a cervical collar in mean time.

Continue with painkillers in mean time, and do get the test done.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.

Thank you for you reply. What exactly is Spondylosis, furthermore, what are the causes? Also, the area between my left side of neck and shoulder is where I have a long term prexisting pinched nerve...and that spot in particular is in constant pain now, whereas before it just hurt sometimes. When I tilt my head backwards now the pain is going from my left shoulder area down to my bicept area. Any further answers from the aforementioned would be greatly appreciated !

Brief Answer:
pain from neck to shoulder to arms

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.

Spondylosis is vertebral condition, in which the area between the vertebrae is reduced. In these areas / vertebral disc space, the nerves come out of the vertebral column.
As the space is reduced, compression of nerve occurs at this location leading to pain in areas supplying the nerve.
Your X-ray would show the reduced disc space between vertebrae, if it is spondylosis.

Pain increases with lifting anything by the hand and reduces with rest or painkillers.
Avoiding any weight work with that hand and wearing cervical collar should help. Physiotherapy to strengthen neck muscles will also help.

The pain will move into shoulders and arms or even hands depending on the nerve compressed. Severely painful. Preventing further compression and regular neck exercises are usually the choice of treatment.

Hope it helps.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
