What Causes Pain In Stomach After Taking Genfibrozil?

Question : I was unable to take Lipitor and Crestrol (not sure of spellings) I had muscle pain from both. Now my new dr has put me on Gemfibrozil 600, I felt a bit of pain in stomach, but what really concerned me was on my finger below my knuckle it looks like I'd bruised it completely, I stopped taking it and bruise faded away in about 24 hours. Does this Gemfibrozil have any same ingredients as the 1st 2 meds I had taken? Years ago I'd taken Birth Control pills and a vain in my ankle swelled up in about 5 months. Don't know if any connection or not.

Doesn't seem to bother me any. I feel like when I get
checked at dr's I'm a nervous wreck. I just purchased a home BP
monitor, just came today. I want to see what it is daily. below is info on meds I have been already taking....
I have also been taking Lisinopril had been taking 20mg... My new dr just
increaced it to 40. also had been taking Metoprolol tartrate 50mg also
Levothyroxine 0.05 She said my thyroxine is okay. Many who
have had Larynx removed have thyroid problems. I also
take Omeprazole 20 for acid reflux another side line from Larynx removal.
and Bupropion SR 150mg
She also prescribed Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg but I have not started them yet.
I really hate taking all this stuff. Was not thrilled she gave
me 2 more to take. It really scared me when my finger appeared
bruised. The warnings really upset me. I'm fairly active, when it's warmer I do pool aerobics and do walk quite a bit.

I have read your query and understand your concern.
Lipitor and Crestor belong to statin group of medicines and are known to cause muscle pains.When these medicines doesn't suit a person we give alternate drugs like gemfibrozil for lowering of cholesterol however it can also cause muscle pains.
Bruising is a very rare side effect of gemfibrozil and I would advise you to restart this medicine and see the effect of it.In case you get bruises again,then it would become sure that gemfibrozil is the cause for your bruises.
In case bruises appear again,you can discuss with your doctor about it and can use a different medicine called as EZETIMIBE which is tolerated well.
Gemfibrozil is also known to cause stomach discomfort but it gradually improves with continued use of medicine.
As far as your BP is concerned ,a reading of 160 as upper blood pressure is high and it needs to be brought down to around 120.
You can start HYDROCHLORTHIAZIDE.
I know it appears bad to have so many medicines but it is very important to keep a control of cholesterol levels as well as your blood pressure within normal limits so as to avoid any cardiovascular accident.
Kerp doing regular exercises and remain active.
