Question : have a pain in my left side of stomach for about a week now. Can only sleep on my left side, too painful to try to sleep on my back or the right side. Most painful when I lie down. I am able to walk without much pain. If I push the area with the palm of my hand it is painful. I am obese, weigh 225 pounds, but in last two months have lost 30 pounds eating primarily protein and very little carbs and sugar. Also walk 30 minutes or more each day. I still work full time and have had a lot of stress at work and at home. I went to my family doctor and he said I was eating too much fiber, to only eat one apricot a day and one kiwi a day. I quit eating both about three days ago. I took some tylenol PM (2 pills) at I was able to sleep about three days ago. Last night only had two hours sleep.

Brief Answer:
Colitis, fecolith or related to left kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read the history and understood your concerns.
Since there is so much of a pain, there has to be a reason.
This may be due to fecolith impaction or colitis.
Anythting related to kidney can also cause similar problems.

I think you need the following in such a situation:
Clinical evaluation and examination by a General surgeon.
X-ray of abdomen and ultrasonography.
Tests of stool, urine and blood.
Further investigations as from preliminary clinical diagnosis and reports of the investigations.
All these will help you to get a proper cause hence possible to get the proper management.

Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Any symptoms related to urinary system like burning, frequency or so?
Any change in bowel habits? Like hard stools, constipation or loose stools? Color, consistency, smell changes in stool?
Any backache or so?
Any other constitutional symptoms like fever, chills, bodyache or so?

I hope this answer helps you.
