What Causes Pain In The Arm Upon Waking Up?
About two months ago, I started having problems with my right arm when I woke in the morning. It was very painful. About three inches down from my shoulder. I didn't know what was wrong with it but once I got out of bed, it got better but when I tried to reach for something, the pain was very intense. That went on for about a month and then my left arm started doing the same thing. Now, it is very hard for me to put on a coat. Both arms hurt and I can't reach with out extreme pain. I haven't had an injury so I have no idea what can be going on. I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips so I thought it might be related but if feels that the pain is in my muscles and not bones. Also, my shoulders and elbows seem to feel like a constant underlying pain...very uncomfortable. The Aleve I have been taking doesn't seem to do much at all so I use a heating pad because ice seems to make it ache more.
It seems Myopathy
Detailed Answer:
Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.
The symptoms you have described indicate myopathy or inflammation of the muscles .
The reasons of this could be many .I would suggest you to rule them out one by one
Firstly if you are not a diabetic get a HBA1C level done and rule out diabetes .If you already are please ensure you maintain tight control of your blood sugars.
Low B12 levels also can cause muscle pains.Get a Fasting serum B12 levels done.
Electrolyte imbalance like low sodium or potassium levels can also cause these symptoms. Please get them evaluated and replaced if needed.
Hypothyroidism also can cause myopathic symptoms.
Meanwhile you could start taking vitamin E oral supplements and B12 supplements to help the muscles work better.
Continue using hot packs if they give you relief.
Best wishes
