What Causes Pain In The Chest After Injury?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: I tried pulling my heavy dinning room table towards me, and I heard a pop in my rib area. Immediate pain.
This was last Friday. I wrapped the area with a medical bandage when I work. Deep breathing hurts. My lower abdomen feels bloated, and haven't felt like that for a very long time.

Brief Answer:
It sounds like a muscular injury in the chest wall.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mam,

You have suffered a muscle injury in the chest wall area most likely. Even if a Rib has broken the treatment would remain the same.
Do not worry. The pain would last for a few weeks because of the area the injury is in. You will need to take pain killer medicines like Diclofenac or Ibuprofen as and when required but only on a full stomach, that is, after meals.

You could try wearing a chest binder which could restrict the movements of the chest with breathing and decrease the pain.

Also, Putting warm foamentation over the area of tenderness would help decrease the pain and you would need to lie down on the opposite side till the pain decreases. But it will go down soon.
If it increases or persists over three to four weeks you should consult your Doctor or a Surgeon who could examine you. They could give you a nerve block injection if the pain is severe. But do not worry at all.

Take care and do let me know if there are any queries on this issue.
