Brief Answer:
Rarely there can be interactions when MRI compatible implants are used

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

MRI scan uses radio frequency waves to create images of various areas.

In case of an MRI scan after getting a knee replacement surgery, the radiofrequency wave can interact with non-compatible metal implants. MRI scan is done after knee replacement only if the metal is MRI compatible.

Rarely there can be a loosening due to the interaction between the radio frequency waves and the metal (when the compatible metal implant is used) and this can generate heat and mild vibrations and cause pain and this is more common if MRI scan is done in the first few weeks after implant surgery.

Hope I have answered your query.
