Posted on Tue, 29 Nov 2016
Question: I have been receiving Reclast infusions for 5 years, I am 81, during that time I have had pain in lower spine, knees and joints, and am in pain the majority of the day and night. I do have spinal stenosis, co could stand to lose at least 30 pounds. I have become hesitant about Reclast because I have swelling in my ankles and feet, and take 40 grams of a diuretic. I am considering stopping the reclast . XXXX

Brief Answer:
Reclast should only be taken for five years

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Oddly and conveniently you are only supposed to take reclast for five years especially if you are having bone pain or joint pain. Therefore, this may be a good time for you to see your rheumatologist again and get switched to a new, or different, medication for your osteoporosis.

There are a couple of different options for you. I can discuss them with you, but it will ultimately be up to your rheumatologist who knows more about your medical problems besides osteoporosis. In addition, you should also have a bone scan to determine the severity of osteoporosis and the need for treatment.

Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns.
I hope this helps.
