Question: I was diagnosed with poly myalgia rheumatica in July 2014 and at August 1st as determined by the specialist came off of the prednisone I was on to treat it. My sedimentation rate is 3.2. My problem now is that I have aching joints and limbs especially before I get up ,and very little energy. My doctor tells me to walk but my limbs are aching all over. It seems to be getting worse. Is it just because I need to strengthen my muscles?

Brief Answer:
I think you should get CPK done.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that there are two possibilities , one is that after taking steroids for long time body becomes habitual for the same so when its withdrawn it leads to pains and aches . Other thing is steroid induced myopathy which is a serious issues although rare. In my opinion I think you should get muscle enzymes tested like CPK, LDH , Aldolase at the earliest.

You can discuss this with your treating doctor or at the ER.

I will be to pleased to answer follow up questions if any.

Take care.

Dr. Shruti
