Question : Have an unsolved problem with your doctor, my PRP & my pulmonologist. After PFT test developed pain in right lower side below ribs. Has since moved to left side. Had xray, c=scan, cortizone, pain killers, muscle relaxers etc.
Was down to Tylenol and XANAX for relief. Then tried ibuprophen. Can I alternate the Ty and Ibu? Having MRI nest week.

Brief Answer:
It is ok to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

I looked through some of your previous exchanges with physicians and tried to figure out a list of medications you are taking. I don't know if I have a complete list.

Providing you do not have risks for taking NSAIDs (non steroidal antiinflammatory medications) which would include taking a blood thinner, having stomach problems such as a history of peptic/gastric ulcers, kidney disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, or past history of stroke, there is no reason not to take an NSAID such as ibuprofen.

And yes, it is safe to alternate between ibuprofen and acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Tylenol reduces pain and fever, but NSAIDs have the additional benefit of being anti-inflammatory.

It is important to eat some food before taking any NSAID so that it doesn't just sit on the lining of your stomach.

Xanax, Tylenol, and Advil or Motrin (ie ibuprofen) are all compatible.

I'm sorry you have had pain since your tests without learning the cause or a solution. I hope that answers your question. If there is anything further I can explain or clarify, please let me know.
