Brief Answer:
difficult to say without seeing you

Detailed Answer:
there are several features of pain that help show what is going on, however.
Location: the joint, muscles, tendons, nerves can be localized by the location.
The type of pain (electrical or hot or icy implies nerve) shooting pain implies nerve.

testing with movement. Obviously moving the muscles if it produces pain means a muscle is involved If the tendons are sore particular twists trigger the pain.

context. well.... obviously if you hit it, then it is due to the hitting it and something that was hit is the source of the pain. But various diseases and conditions also give strong leads as to what is causing he pain.

This is rather the initial information and gives some guidance for further discussion
