What Causes Pain In The Right Arm?

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Question: I developed pain between my shoulder and elbow right side some months ago. Dr said I had an impegement (sp) I went to PT to no avail. This pain has now gone over to my left arm. It feels like it's in the muscle and has recently ached enough that it awakes me during the night. Ibuphron helps some. Yesterday I could hardly vacuum the living room. I am a 64 yr old female and in good health. Any thoughts? XXXX

Brief Answer:
seems to be a neuropathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX

Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

How was your day?

Hope this message finds you in good health.

I have gone through your query in detail and understand your concern.

if the pain on right side arm was due to an impingement, then it woudnt have migrated to the other arm for sure. if the pain in both the arms feels of the same quality and character, then it seems most probably due to a neuropathy, meaning ,inflammation of a nerve.

this can be caused by localised nerve inflammation occuring due to vitamin B6 and B12 deficiency, or it may be secondary to a nerve compression in the neck region because of a cervical disc prolapse.

if the pain is not associated with sweating or left sided chest pain, then its less likely that this left arm pain may be related to any heart disease.

i suggest you to take methycobal tablets with calcium, along with anti inflammatory tablets for 5 days. localised gel application, hot fomentation and a compression bandage can help.

if this doesnt help, then you should consult a orthopedist and get investigations like xray/mri and if needed, EMG and NCV done.

I hope your question has been answered.

Feel free to consult me anytime for follow-up queries.

Take care,God bless.
