Question: Hi, I would like to ask a question
I have a pain in my solar plexus area for a long time and it seems to get worse. It comes and goes and doesn't last a long time. My doctor says it is costiochondritis but it exhausts me and I feel like it might eb something worse. I also have middle back pain and pain along the rib cage.

Brief Answer:
Many causes if upper abdominal pain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.

By your solar plexus I'm assuming you mean pain in your upper abdomen.

There can be many causes of pain in the upper abdominal area. The history of the pain, it's exacerbating and relieving factors can point a physician to the appropriate investigations and diagnosis.

Pain from costochondritis is usually localized to the costochondral joints between the ribs and the sternum.

Pain in the upper abdomen could be from a stomach problem such as a hiatus hernia or gastric ulcer; inflammation in the pancreas gland 'pancreatitis'; a hernia or diverication of the rectis abdominus in this area. Sometimes cardiac symptoms can be referred into this region. spasm, ulceration or inflammation if the esophagus can cause upper abdominal pain.

The investigations for upper abdominal pain include blood work, a breath test for bacterial infection in the stomach that' causes ulceration, an ultrasound, gastroscopy and occasionally a CT San or barium meal.

If your not satisfied with your own dr's opinion I suggest you seek a second opinion and further investigation of your pain.

best wishes
