What Causes Pain In The Stomach While Detoxing The Alcohol?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Jan 2015
Question: My son is detoxing from alcohol. We are wondering about his esophagus and stomach. How would he know if he was bleeding internally?

My son will go to the doctor immediately as soon as we are home in XXXXXXX He feels better now and thinks he does not need a clinic until we are home. His only immediate concern is regarding internal bleeding. He is nice and pink and fairly active considering the dotox situation. He is ready to eat soup but it hurts when he swallows.

Brief Answer:
An upper GI endoscopy may be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Pain during swallowing could be due to esophagitis.
If there is internal bleeding, there will be blood vomiting and the stool will be black.
To know the status of esophagus and stomach and to know whether he is bleeding internally, an upper GI endoscopy may be done.

I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
