Question : I am experiencing pain in my upper right abdomen, just below the rib cage. This is the second time in three days. The pain radiates to my back. I am currently finishing a regimen of prednisone. I'm a female, 63, obese, diabetic, and regularly take anti-inflammatories along with other meds.

Brief Answer:
Pain from pinched nerve.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

The pattern of pain you are describing its typical of a pinched nerve.
The treatment its with anti-inflammatory drugs, that you are already using. If those are not enough, you can do a combination with one of them and adding 700mg of Acetaminophen.
Applying ice may help sometimes.
It may need around 4-6 weeks to get fully well.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a local doctor. You may need physical therapy.

Hope this is helpful.
