What Causes Pain In The Upper Right Flank Area?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Dec 2016
Question: I have suffered from Kidney Stones in the past. I am experiencing pain in the upper right flank area but it is not as intense as kidney stone pain and seems to only hurt when I sit or lie down. Standing or lying on my belly relieves most of the pain. Can this still be a Kidney stone or more likely a pulled muscle or something?

Brief Answer:
Needs to be investigated

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query
The pain in flank in a person with known previous history of having kidney stone disease is most likely to be due to kidney stone unless proved otherwise .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) X-Ray of Spine to rule out any orthopedic cause for pain .

In the mean while take Antispasmodics like Cyclopam with Norfloxacin twice daily .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

Thanks and Regards.
