What Causes Pain In Upper Left Torso After Gastrointestinal Surgeries?

default
Posted on Thu, 18 Dec 2014
Question: i have had 4 gastro related surgeries in the past 4 years. Now I have pain in my upper left torso, almost directly under my left breast. My colonoscopy { sp} and endoscopy showed where the previous surgeries were and diverticulosis. My question is, is there a possibility that this pain could be a result of scar tissue pressing against some nerves?

Brief Answer:
It is likely musculoskeletal. Get ECG n Xray done

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Your Doctor seems to be correct. It is most likeyl musculoskeletal. But you should still see a GP who can advice an Electrocardiogram and a Chest XRay to rule out common causes of pain in the area. If they all are normal then it would most likely be musculoskeletal.
As per your query about scar tissue pressing upon nerves. That would be possible if the pain is at, near or below the scar area or operated area. It is unlikely to be above the scar or away from it. Nerve compression pain usually manifest soon after surgery and improve slowly thereafter. They are unlikely to start weeks or months after surgery. So dont worry and your GP should be able to advice you pain medications depending upon the test results. But it does not look like anything to worry about. So relax and do let us know if we can help you with any other queries you might be having on the subject.
Take care.
