What Causes Pain In Upper Right Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: Hi,
I have mild pain in the upper right abdomen. It's not very painful but it hasn't gone away. It's gone on for about 2 weeks. I've also had some acid reflux during that time. Possible loss of appetite. Possible trouble sleeping, but otherwise I feel normal.
Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
It could be Gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. It most likely would be Gastritis.
I suggest decrease intake of acidic and fried food. No hot beverages and no alcohol or smoking. You should start exercising a little bit if you are already not doing so. A 35 to 40min walk 5 times a week would be very good. Do not sleep immediately after any meal. This should take care of the problem.
I usually advice acid decreasing medicines like Pantoprazole 40mg half hour before breakfast if the problem does not get sorted by above means.
Try this and let us know if you are not relieved.
Take care.

Quite possible.
But let me specify where the pain is because it might not have been clear. When I said upper right side abdomen, I meant MY right side. Like where the liver and gallbladder is. My stomach feels no pain at all, except the acid reflux I mentioned. Does this change your opinion, or is this normal for Gatritis?

Brief Answer:
You can get liver function tests done

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Gastritis pain can be in places where you mentioned. The treatment would be on the same lines. What I can possibly add with the new information would be to get your liver function tests done. It is a blood test which can be done with help of your GP or family Doctor and also get GGT done. This will give us a fair idea of whether there is anything wrong with the liver. To screen for the Gall bladder an Ultrasound of abdomen can be done but you dont require it as of now.
Start the treatment outlined in the earlier answer and get these blood investigations done for now and then let us know.
Feel free to ask any further queries on this issue.
Take care.
