Question: Hi, I have pain on the left side below the ribs. Especially when I take a deep breath (then it's sharp). It has lasted for 4 hours. No other symptoms. I had gas prior but not since. One small bowel today in the past few hours. I took 2 gas x and a laxative in the past hour. No change yet

Brief Answer:
Get Xray and ECG and have pain medicines.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX

As the pain is below the ribs is increasing on inspiration as you say and not relieved by gas medicines then it would most likely be originating in the chest cavity either lungs or pleura, the layer that surrounds the lungs. You should see your GP and get a Chest XRay done and he can advice you what it could be.

I usually advice my patients Tablet Paracetamol or some other pain medicines for the acute pain until reports are available.

Do not worry it could be a muscle origin or pleura origin pain. Get the Xray done and have yourself examined by your GP. Also get an ECG done when you visit your Doctor.

Take care.
