Brief Answer:
MRI and clinical evaluation for Trigeminal neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Male/69 - pain on left side - ear, neck, eye - from TMJ - as seen by Emergency Dr - Primary - TMJ Dentist - TMJ XXXXXXX drug no help - warm compresses - wants to know whether OTC like Aleve, Advil or Motrin can help - also present some numbness in left side of lips and palate

My thoughts: XXXXXXX drug is Carisoprodol and belongs to a group of drugs known as muscle relaxants, helps by blocking the signals from nerves to the brain. Taking OTC like Motrin and other NSAIDS can increase the risk of side effects. Hence you will have to talk to your Doctor before taking any such added medication.

I was wondering whether you have been investigated for TMJ to confirm the TMJ problem?
Since the spread of your pain to the left and and eye and numbness to the left part of lips and palate (as per your history) is not seen with TMJ affection.
I would advise you to talk about Trigeminal Neuralgia with your Doctors.
MRI of the TMJ and for Trigeminal nerve can be of help to get the proper diagnosis and may be change of medication accordingly for you to have better pain control.
Second opinion of an ENT and/or Neurologist can help you to get a better diagnosis. It is possible that TMJ and other conditions can co-exist. Better to
a confirmed diagnosis.

I hope this answer helps you further towards getting a proper diagnosis and plan for treatment.
