What Causes Pain On The Right Side Of Head?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: I have been having pain on the right side of my head, not deep pain, or headache– more surface pain
in a oblong shape from mid right side, down the back of my head, and up around the right temple.
It is a bit tingly, painful to the touch, and not really sharp, more of a sensation. I recently had the vitreoal thing a the back of the eye on that side, release from the back of my eye and now have a floater in my vision.

Brief Answer:
Eye examination as soon as possible

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.
I have thoroughly read your query & deeply understand your concern.

From your history its clear that your suffering is due to irritation of the nerve which supplies both right side of you head & right eye. This is possibly related to the vitreal procedure that you have undergone.

Since there is floater I were to examine (fundoscopy) to rule out bleeding as early as possible.

I would be glad to know what procedure was done on the vitreous of your right eye.

Hope this answers your query.

I had the eye thoroughly checked and all is OK, no bleeding, etc. The doctor explained about how that can separate with aging.
I have neck problems too, so wonder if the sensation on my scalp and scull may relate. Or if I am be allergic to a hair gel substance I use, which works so well with my hair.
I guess my real concern is that I may have a stroke. Because of my weight gain, my rising sugar and blood pressure, etc. But the biggest reason is that I
have some additional symptoms which make me wonder if I am having blockage in my veins or arteries. When walking, even on a small incline, I get a bit short of breath and then a burning sensation in both arms, chest, and back.
I am hesitant to re-tell my doctor about this, because when they check my blood, there are obvious indicators which appear. Years ago I had the stress tests and nothing showed up then. I am concerned about this everyday and need some advice. I had years of miserable chest colds and viruses which lasted for weeks and often wonder if this could have done some heart damage. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Neck brace.Evaluate heart, kidney,lipids & BP

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing me back.

Hope your blood sugars are well under control and you are on regular medication and follow-up.

Pain sensation might be due to neck/cervical problems.I were to do a neck X-ray, Vitamin D3 levels (blood test)- to rule out Vitamin D deficiency.Advise a neck brace for minimum of 8 to 12 weeks with muscle relaxants and analgesics only when the pain becomes intolerable. These are not indicative of stroke at all.

Shortness of breath can be due to early stage of angina (chest pain) when your heart is being strained to push the blood.I were to measure your blood pressure, do few tests- ECG,fasting lipid profile, renal function tests to assess the lipids and kidney function.Repeat stress test or echo and plan the line of management.

Donot panic. As long you control your sugars, blood pressure, lipids & have healthy lifestyle you shall stay fit and perfect.

Hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
CT Cervical spine to rule out nerve compression

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Perfect.That's really good to hear that you have an healthy lifestyle with sugars, pressure & lipid under check.

Inverted vertebra might press the nerve on your right side of you neck and probably resulting in your agony.I were to do CT C-spine and rule out this possiblity.
If this is positive then, I were to treat it conservatively- physiotherapy, neck exercises and usage of neck brace.Surgery helps only in severe cases of pain when the nerve needs decompression or release. This also helps to cut down the need analgesics.

Hope this answers your query.
