Question : hi, I have a pain on the top of my left shoulder (the tip not the blade) that is worse when I inhale - stabbing type feeling - and a dull ache the rest of the time. I also have an intermittent pain in my left ring finger that only seems to come on at night, but I have tingling sensation in that finger and my little finger sporadically throughout the day. I smoke about 8 cigarettes a day and I have been doing a lot of decorating the last few days (painting (low fume paint and wallpapering) so I am wondering whether this is likely lung related or musculoskeletal? thanks

Brief Answer:
Musculoskeletal problem likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain on the tip of the shoulder is likely to be a musculoskeletal issue due to repeated overhead activity of painting. The tingling in the ring finger and little finger is likely to be due to ulnar nerve irritation at elbow or cervical spine.
Here are some general treatment measures which you can follow:
1) Provide complete rest and avoid overhead activities.
2) Apply cold compresses and take some anti inflammatory pain killer after consulting your doctor.
You may require to consult an orthopedician if problem persists or worsens. You should consult to your GP for confirmation of it and also rule out ulnar neuropathy and lung causes.
I hope this answers your query.
