Question : My daughter XXXXXXX was born with a heart murmur. She has wore a heart monitor in the past when she was 18yrs. old. The monitor did not show symptoms for a heart problem. This morning she experienced extreme pain in her chest under her right breast. She took a Zantac thinking it was a stomach issue. The pain did not leave. It lasted for 4 hours. I am not sure what this was. What do you think she and I should do?
Brief Answer:
Medicines + discuss with your doctor....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am not sure what type of congenital heart disease your daughter has, but I don't feel this right upper abdomen pain under the breast is not from the heart. Gastritis and ulcer is my first differential diagnosis. A gall stone will be my next close possibility.
I would suggest her to consult her local physician or a gastroenterologist before going to her cardiologist.
In the interim, she can try a course of proton pump inhibitors - Prilosec OTC once a day for 7 days. Avoid spices, excess fats, oils and caffeinated beverages. Make sure she sleeps well.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
