Brief Answer:
Pain coiuld be due to muscle strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

I would like to know if you had any fever, what is the colour of the sputum and do you have any allergy/asthma issue?

Sometimes after a bout of simple cold and cough, the airways become hypersensitive and the patient develops cough and wheez. You may take a antiallergic like a montair lc and a inhaler like aerocort 2 puffs twice a day for sometime.

Coming to the pain under your left rib cage, it could be because of muscle strain due to continuous coughing. Should subside soon and if it is very annoying you may take a pain killer. But if it persists, you may have to consult your PCP and a xray chest will be required to rule out any other pathology.
