Question : I had a crown which covers 2 teeth 14 and 15 put on 11/23 and have been back to the dentist on 11/25 to have the crown shaped. To date I still have a little pain chewing and the crown just feels like it should have been 2 separate crowns for 14 and 15. How long should I wait and try and get used to this abnormal feeling and can the crown be safely taken off and done with 2 separate crowns for 14 and 15. thanks

Brief Answer:
Seems like high points in the crowns or infection, needs evaluation..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain as you have light or mild pain on chewing after placing of permanent crowns then it can be commonly observed in case if there are high points in the crowns..
High points cause early contact of the crown with opposite jaw tooth as compared to other teeth and there are high forces exerted which cause pain..

Other cause can be infection below the root tips of tooth/teeth and as biting pressure is exerted it leads to pain..

As far as placing of two separate crown are concerned it can also be given and each crown will act as individual unit and problem with one not effect the functioning of other..

The crowns can be removed with crown remover but my suggestion would be first get checked by your dentist for high points and if present get them trimmed..
It will resolve much of your problem..

In case if still there is pain after one week get an x Ray done and get checked for infection below the root tips of both 14 and 15..
If infection is present then Root Canal Treatment might be needed..
If teeth are already treated with Root Canal Treatment then first of all a short course of antibiotics will be given and of still it doesn't improve re-root canal treatment is needed..

As of now first of all get the crown trimmed and wait for a week..

If still you do not find improvement then get an x ray done and revert me back so that I can guide you towards further course of treatment and whether crown removal or Root Canal Treatment is needed or not..

Any further questions are welcome..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
