Question: I am 80. I have no health issues and am under no medication. I have had irritable bowel sindrum events sense teens. Last night I had a painful bowel event. This morning the pain is still somewhat with me in the bowel area. I felt the need for a bowel movement and it was fresh blood only. I feel a little weak and have not eaten . It is now 10:30 AM. I weigh 160 lbs. and am not used to needing any medical care . How concerned should I be?

Brief Answer: Yes, you should be concerned. Detailed Answer: Hello! Thank you for the query. You should be very concerned. Please note that every person over the age of 50 should have colonoscopy every 10 years to rule out colon cancer. Your symptoms can be caused by such cancer. This condition should be ruled out at first. Weakness can be caused by low hemoglobin level due to blood loss with stool. Please do not ignore your symptoms. You should visit your doctor as soon as possible. Blood work and abdominal X-ray (to rule out obstruction) should be done at first. Colonoscopy should be next. Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions. Regards.
