Brief Answer:
Painful bowel movements may be due to anal fissure or hemorrhoids

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am Dr.Amit Jain (DM, Gastroenterologist).

Painful defecation may be due to hemorrhoids or anal fissure. To relieve the pain I will suggest you to do the following:

1.Increase dietary intake of fiber. The richest sources include fruits and vegetables, whole wheat bread, XXXXXXX cereal, peas, oats and beans.
2.Increase your fluid intake or at least six to eight glasses per day.
3.Exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. A good walk is enough to keep your bowels going.
4.You may also use anti-pain medications of class NSAID like tablet Advil thrice a day.
5.Never delay bowel movement.
6.You can also take laxatives to aid in defecation.
7. Continue with application of Preparation H ointment
8. Take Sitz bath at least thrice/ day

I hope I have answered your query. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Wish you a good health
