Question : do I have herpes or a nasal staph infection? i recently had a painful bump on the inside of my nostril. i picked away the yellowish booger-like scab and it was very painful when i did. it has since gone away but seems like it spread to the bottom of my nose. i dont know what to do. i put some triple antibiotic ointment on the wound and it seems to be helping but there is a yellowish scab. it has not been painful the whole time...only when i grazed it by blowing my nose or accidentally touching it..
Brief Answer:
Nasal Furuncle is the likely possibility
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
I saw the picture sent by you. There is no evidence Herpes simplex infection.
Herpes simplex infection manifests with grouped multiple vesicles containing clear fluid leads to ulceration within a day and heals within 7-10 days. Scabing and yellowish pus coming from that are not characteristic for Herpes infection. A course of antibiotic would help to relieve your problem of possibly a case furuncle of nose. (Staphylococcal infection). Consult your physician (Dermatologist or an ENT surgeon), get examined and get well soon.
