What Causes Painful Lump On Buttocks?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: I am an IT person. I was running cable this past Tuesday and had trouble getting up off the floor. I think I strained too hard and now, I have an extremely sore place on the side of my leg up next to my anus. It's not discolored but extremely sore to the touch. It's a constant throbbing pain--almost unbearable. It's a little larger than a 50 cent piece. I'm thinking it's maybe a hernia? Or could I have some other muscle protrusion there? What kind of doctor do I need to see about this? Is surgery the only solution for this type of injury? Any information is appreciated!

Brief Answer:
Can you upload an image of this protrusion?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this protrusion that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and this may represent a hemorrhoid and not a hernia. To confirm this, I will like you to upload an image of this lump for further review. Also, I will like that you try to push this lump gently with a wipe into the anus such that it is no longer felt externally. This is because the constriction by the anal sphincter of the anus of the probable hemorrhoidal sac makes it tensed and that is what is responsible for the severe pain. What pain medications are you on?

In all, possibly a hemorrhoid. Push back gently and upload an image for review. Also, let me know the drugs you are taking at this time.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

My husband assisted me and we tried to get a photo but nothing will show up. You can feel it but cannot see it at all. I've tried to illustrate it in a drawing. I hope this will give you more information. Thanks, Dr. Ditah!

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of thromboised external hemmorrhoid!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the image fully. There is probably a clot inside and that is what is responsible for these symptoms. It will regress spontaneously with time. What we need to do now is good pain management. I will recommend you apply warm pads and also use Tylenol/Ibuprofen to get your pain well controlled. Please, update me regularly on how you are doing and let's see is there are any additional measures which should be recommended.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Keep me updated for more guidance.
