What Causes Painful Respiration While Lying Down On Left Side?

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Oct 2015
Question: Im a healthy, active, 43 year old male. I fell pretty hard onto a grassy field on my left side yesterday during company picnic. There are no visible marks or bruises. My left side hurts when i sneeze, cough, breathe deeply or bend over. Im unable to lie on that side. Doesn't feel like anything's broken. Should I see a doctor, chiropractor? I do yoga twice a week. should i take a break?

Brief Answer:
Rib Fractures, lung trauma

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Pain while breathing out lying on that side can indicate trauma to the rib cage, possibly rib Fractures.

Avoid lying on the injured side and taking sudden sharp breaths. Breathe fully but slowly.

I would get an Xray of your chest done to look for rib Fractures and any other trauma to the lungs.

Eat healthy. Keep well hydrated.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
