Question : what would cause pain in abdomin and lower back left side with a swollen area left side below rib cage it seems to be amplified after a big meal

If the size of the swelling increases on taking food it can be intestinal hernia.Pain can be because of protrusion of hernia contents.
Intestinal hernia is a situation where duecto week muscles intestine herniates into the space between the muscles.
I would suggest you to go for a ultra sound abdomen to rule out any such pathology.
